Entry-Level Telecom Laborer An entry-level field position supporting underground and aerial telecom construction projects through hands-on labor, equipment operation, and site preparation. This role is ideal for someone who wants to build a long-term career in telecommunications and is willing to travel for work. About the Role The Telecom Laborer works as part of a field crew to install and maintain telecom infrastructure. Work is performed outdoors in varying conditions and requires travel to job sites up to 5 days per week. You’ll assist with digging, conduit installation, vegetation control, and general site preparation while learning industry tools, equipment, and safety practices. Key Responsibilities Operate basic and skilled equipment to support field construction tasks Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment Complete manual labor duties including digging, trenching, and ground preparation Lay conduit according to project specifications and safety standards Perform weed eating, trimming, and vegetation management around work sites Follow all safety procedures and participate in required safety training Work under the direction of a Foreman or Crew Lead Support the crew with additional tasks to ensure efficient project completion Travel to various job sites up to 5 days per week Required Skills & Experience General labor experience or willingness to perform physical work Interest in telecom, cable, fiber optic, or construction fields Ability to learn and use hand tools, power tools, and basic equipment Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to travel Ability to work outdoors and in physically demanding environments Preferred Skills (Not Required) Exposure to coax or fiber optic installation Experience in construction, utilities, or related trades Qualifications Entry-level; no prior telecom experience required Must be self‑sufficient, motivated, and eager to learn Ability to follow instructions and work safely Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ashland, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
