## Join Our Team as a Night Shift Nursing Assistant on Oncology and General Surgery At Advocate Health, we are looking for a dedicated Nursing Assistant to join our Med Surg: IU Tower 4 team at Advocate Condell Medical Center. This part-time night shift role offers you the chance to make a real difference in patient care, working two 12-hour shifts per week from 6:30 pm to 7:00 am. We are specifically seeking someone available Sunday night through Thursday night—no weekends required. ### What You'll Do You'll assist our registered nurses with the daily care of patients, helping with bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and activity orders. You'll support ambulation and proper positioning, including the use of therapeutic assistive devices and safe transferring techniques. Your day-to-day will involve measuring and documenting blood pressures, temperature, pulse, respiration, intake and output, daily weights, and other patient data in our Electronic Medical Record (EMR). You'll perform purposeful rounding under the direction of the RN, promptly communicating any observations, concerns, or needs you notice from patients or their families. You'll also help with admissions, transfers, and discharges—setting up rooms, orienting patients, managing their belongings, and handling linens. Ensuring patient call lights are always within reach and answered promptly is a key part of this role. Other responsibilities include collecting urine, stool, and sputum specimens, performing point-of-care testing with accurate labeling and identification, maintaining competency, and completing errands such as picking up and delivering trays, charts, specimens, and reports. You'll keep stock for the nursing area organized, clean equipment and work areas, and perform various patient positioning and transporting duties that require lifting and pushing or pulling—always using proper techniques and assistive devices. You'll support patients' nutritional needs by reviewing diets, setting up and removing trays, ensuring proper positioning during meals, and assisting with diet selection. You'll also help maintain skin integrity through repositioning and skin care, and you may be asked to ensure special supplies like TED hose and sequential compression devices are in place. Depending on the unit, you might also remove IVs, provide post mortem care, or perform bladder scans under the direction of the RN. ### Qualifications We're Looking For To succeed in this role, you'll need a **High School Graduate** or equivalent (GED or HSED). A **Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers** certification from the American Heart Association is required, and you must obtain it within 45 days of starting. You also need to be listed as a Nurse Aide in good standing on the State Registry where you'll work. We're looking for someone with basic computer skills, excellent oral and written communication, and great organizational skills with the ability to set priorities. You should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide care appropriate to the ages of the patients we serve, understanding growth and development across the lifespan. ### Physical Demands and Work Environment This role is physically active—you'll need to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above your shoulders throughout the shift. You should be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs overhead, carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance, and push or pull with 30 lbs of force. You'll also need to perform sliding transfers of 150 lbs with another person present. Functional vision and hearing are required. You'll be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards, as well as blood and body fluids on a continuous basis, so you'll need to wear protective clothing as necessary. ### Compensation and Benefits We offer a competitive pay range of **$20.80 - $31.20 per hour**, based on your qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.
