Associate Data Analyst

The Sanlam Life and Savings Office provides strategic direction, coordination and support to the four clusters, as well as performing governance oversight that includes assurance provided by second line of defense functions in SLS, to enable us to meet our business objectives.

What will you do?

Output/Core Tasks

SBI Business Solutions team in compiling reports, communicate changes and responding to enquiries. Responsibilities include the initiation, co-ordination and management of changes to the data, as needed, and the quality assurance of the data. The position is multi-disciplined and taking ownership of assigned tasks and delivering on commitment is key to success in this position.

Data Preparation

Assist in acquiring data from various sources and transforming it into interpretable datasets under supervision. Support in assessing the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and gathering techniques. Participate in processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis. Assist in data profiling of data contained in source systems under guidance.

Analysis And Visualization

Support in interpreting data and analysing results using analytical techniques, under supervision. Assist in identifying trends or patterns in data sets and providing reports or dashboards. Assist in maintaining dashboards, ongoing reporting, and ad hoc requests from the organization under supervision.

Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate with team members and other business users to gather requirements and provide status updates. Support in presenting information using data visualization techniques under guidance.

What will make you successful in this role?

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in information systems, statistics, data or computer science/engineering or equivalent. 1-2 years practical experience or internship in analytics, data visualization, or reporting.

Experience And Skills

A technical (systems) mindset Quality and accuracy orientation Able to work in a complex business (and data) environment Adaptable and flexible to change High energy levels and action orientation Excellent MS Office skills (Word, Excel, add-ins) Basic knowledge of Query Tools (e.g. Interactive reporting, MS Access, Power Pivot, MS Excel, Business Objects)

Competencies

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) Effective elicitation of requirements Excel experience (pivot tables, vlookup, index-match etc.) Agile environment experience (Jira & Way of work) SQL / Cloudera experience (or other BI tools) would be advantageous Good attention to detail Innovative and conceptual thinking Building and maintaining relationships Results driven
