Our client, a retail centre in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape, is looking for a Armed Response Officer to prevent theft and ensure a safe shopping environment. You will patrol the mall, monitor customer behaviour, apprehend shoplifters according to legal procedures, and assist with emergency evacuations. Retail security experience is preferred. Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate a team of security officers, managing shift rosters and ensuring all posts are adequately staffed. Respond promptly to alarm activations, investigate the cause, and take appropriate action including escalation to armed response or law enforcement. Conduct searches of personnel, vehicles, and bags entering or leaving the premises to prevent unauthorised removal of property. Assist with emergency procedures including fire evacuations, medical emergencies, and crisis situations according to established protocols. Control access to buildings and sites by verifying identification, issuing visitor passes, and maintaining an accurate access register. Conduct regular patrols of the assigned premises on foot or by vehicle, checking for security breaches, hazards, and suspicious activity. Write detailed and accurate incident reports describing security events, observations, and actions taken for management review. Requirements A minimum of one to two years of experience in the security industry with a proven track record of reliability. For armed response roles, a valid firearm competency certificate and experience in handling firearms safely. A valid driver's licence is required for armed response and patrol positions. A clear criminal record is mandatory and subject to regular review as per PSIRA requirements. Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods, conduct foot patrols, and respond quickly to incidents. The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure in emergency or high-stress situations. Good written and verbal communication skills to write reports and interact professionally with clients and the public. Qualifications National Certificate in Security Management
