Miner

Our client, a minerals exploration company in Johannesburg, Gauteng, is looking for a Miner to support geological surveying and sampling. You will collect and log drill core samples, map geological features, assist with geophysical surveys, and maintain geological databases. Fieldwork passion and geological software experience are encouraged.

Responsibilities Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly production and safety reports detailing achievements, incidents, and concerns. Operate mining equipment such as drill rigs, continuous miners, roof bolters, and loaders safely per operating procedures. Coordinate emergency response procedures including fire drills, evacuation exercises, and first aid response for mine emergency preparedness. Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses thoroughly, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions. Collect, log, and transport geological samples to the laboratory, maintaining chain of custody and following sampling protocols. Assist with blasting operations including transport, handling, and charging of explosives under certified supervision.

Requirements For geology roles, a bachelor's degree in geology or geoscience and experience with geological modelling and sampling software. A valid medical certificate of fitness confirming fitness to work in a mining environment including underground conditions. Thorough knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and relevant regulations governing mining operations in South Africa. For blasting roles, a valid blasting certificate and experience in handling and use of explosives in a mining environment. A commitment to safety and the ability to work according to strict procedures and protocols without taking shortcuts.

Qualifications Certificate in Mine Health and Safety (COMSOC or SAMTRAC)
